French, late 18th/ early 19th century. "Depart de Fontainebleau", hand colored lithograph by Charles Etienne Pierre Motte (French, 1785-1836) after the engraving by V. Adam. Lithograph depicts Napoleon Bonaparte leaving Paris for Elba after his abdication of the French throne in the wake of his losses during the Napoleonic Wars. Napoleon stands just outside the gates surrounded by loyal soldiers bidding him farewell. Inscribed below image lower left "V. Adam del" and lower right "Lith del Motte". Framed 25" x 29.25", unframed sight size 14" x 18"._x000D_
