Walking Ventriloquist Figure. Chicago: W.H.J. Shaw, ca. 1900. Large and handsome walking version of the traditional ventriloquist figure which, by a special control operated by the performer, can walk about the stage by lifting his legs and taking one step after another. Carved wooden head with coarse wig. One blinking eye and mouth movement operated by strings. Leather shoes; clothes likely later replacements. 45 tall. Walking feature in need of re-stringing, but in operating condition. One gloved hand nearly perished, else very good. Uncommon.
