Evelyn Metzger (American, 1911-2007), oil on masonite depicting a portrait of a woman in a sleeveless low cut dress. Initialed to top left. The book that accompanies the painting is "The Age of Grandeur And A Woman Who Lived It: Artist Evelyn Metzger". It is a hard bound book that covers both her social life and her artistic appreciation and contributions, examining her formal studies of art history at Vassar, her flexibility and travels, and her portraits. Artwork measures approximately 19-3/4" x 16" unframed and the book measures approximately 11-15/16" x 9-1/2"; painting in good overall condition with some wear to edges and book is in very good condition. Evelyn Metzger was a painter of a variety of subjects in a variety of styles including realism, impressionism, fauvism, and cubism. In 1950, she had a major exhibition in Argentina and then exhibited in France, Mexico and the United States. Her work is in the Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C.
