Japanese, Edo/ Meiji Period, 19th century. A katana sword of traditional form comprising long chagreen handle or tsuka covered with dark green cotton tsuka-ito and bearing tiger menuki, later mokko gata tsuba, white metal fuchi, copper encased steel habaki, and curving single-edged steel blade, the carved wood saya with ebonized finish and gold inlaid kojiri. Apparently unsigned. Overall approximate length in saya 39.5". Blade length approximately 27".
