Japanese, Meiji Period (1868-1912). A stoneware Satsuma koro censer comprising a globular body raised on four tall splayed legs and having dragon form loop handles to either side of body, with domical lid bearing Shimazu crests alternating with pierced loud forms under fu dog finial, the whole with earth toned raised enamels depicting courtly figural scenes and elaborate floral and foliate patterning. Underside with three hand painted calligraphic marks. Approximate height 9.75", width across handles 10". Provenance: From the Estate of Dorothy Fuqua, Atlanta, Georgia.
