English, circa 1870. Victorian brass coal scuttle with scoop in helmet shape having an ebonized and brass turned handle with leafy pierced scroll supports and hinged cover embossed with radiating sunburst, opening to a removable iron liner with handle and raised on a turned socle base. Scuttle is accompanied by a small ebonized wood handled brass shovel in the provided compartment in the rear of the scuttle. Remnants of an oval impressed tag to interior of lid with remaining letters 'RHAMPTON'. Approximate height 16.75", width 12.75", depth 18.75".
