Japanese, Meiji Period (1868-1912), 19th century. A large an impressive modernist bronze hibachi brazier (can be used as a jardiniere or planter) comprising dodecagonal (12-sided) cylindrical body raised on four squat feet and having short stepped in neck issuing rolled mouth, with six panels bearing mixed metal inlay depicting auspicious and precious objects. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 9.375", diameter 10.375". Provenance: From the Estate of Dorothy Fuqua, Atlanta, Georgia. Note: Japanese hibachi were traditionally used as heating devices that held burning charcoal to warm rooms.
