Chinese, 19th century. A fine embroidered silk ladies hanfu or robe in navy blue silk with ruyi head shaped cream silk band to collar embroidered with intricate figural groupings, with wide cream silk cuffs embroidered with clusters of auspicious objects created in the Forbidden Stitch or Peking Knot technique flanked by a field of metallic gold threaded serpentine line, and narrow cream bands to lapel and hemline with further courtly figural scenes, the navy ground punctuated with clusters of pink peony blossoms and butterflies, the lapel connected with several silk frog clasps. Approximate length (back of collar to hem) 43.5", across shoulders (cuff to cuff) 57".
