Japanese, late 19th century, Meiji (1868-1912). A fine matched pair of Kutani porcelain covered censers or Koro each having a domed lid pierced below a standing shi shi, kylin or fu dog form finial, the baluster body decorated at the neck with pattern cartouches and mounted with four shi shi masks, the body enameled and gilded with cartouches enclosing pheasants and peony to one side, the other with figures within landscape setting, raised on three zoomorphic form feet. The undersides marked in underglaze red. Provenance: Pitts & Scott LTD, 20-24, Eden Grove, London, N.7 Bed, whereby acquired by a Private Collection in Atlanta, Georgia.
