Chinese, first half 20th century. A Chinese export famille rose painted porcelain lidded temple jar of baluster form (sometimes called ginger jar or lidded urn), lid with iron red foo dog (or fu dog) with emerald collar and tail, lid with scrolled foliate and floral motif enamel with four cartouches, two cartouches of fan form depicting cherry blossoms, two cartouches of cloud form depicting landscape scene with a small building in a forest scene, lid rim with diaper-like patterning accented with rosettes and gilt border, bulbous body with four iron red foo dog faux handles, each foo do with emerald eyes and pronounced teeth, body with scrolled floiate and foral motifs including lotus and peony flowers, four large cartouches depicting scenes with birds including phoenix and flowers including peonies, cherry blossoms and lotus flowers, body with four small cartouches with landscape scenes and floral vignettes with floral buds, foot with lappet border, apparently unmarked. Overall approximate height without lid 19", with lid 25.5", diameter at mouth 8.325".
