French School, Late 19th century. "Route de Sury a Bonneville (Road to Sury Bonneville)"-1874, oil on canvas, signed and dated at lower right "Gureau 1874". A charming figural landscape painting depicting the Route de Bonneville in the Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France; the scene depicts a shepherd and his flock of sheep and cattle, the group meandering along with a herding dog, along the dirt roadway that expands seemingly indefinitely into the distance, with verdant, dense forest lining the scene and a wagon in the distance. With inscription to verso "Route de Sury a Bonneville"; with label to verso "12308 120", with additional labels to verso (2) "Alan Franklin Transport"; with final obscured label to verso, likely early 20th century framer's label. Framed approximately 42.5" x 3". Unframed approximately 31.5" x 22".
