English, mid 19th century. A wide mahogany case clock, having a broken pediment bonnet, supported by two turned columns, with a glazed door opening to reveal an 8-day hand painted dial beneath moon phase with Roman numerals within the chapter ring with figural spandrels depicting personifications of the continents, atop a cove molded waist with chamfered corners and a shaped pendulum door, set on a flat panel base, both with marquetry inlay. Dial signed and dated "A.P. 1862" and "W. Marsland Stockport". Approximate height 97", width 26", depth 10". Provenance: George C. Birlant & Co.
