American, late 19th century. An Empire mahogany fire screen, having a central columnar support mounted with twisted brass acanthus leaves, a fluted brass necking, and a brass figural female capital, topped with a round finial mounted with a brass laurel wreath and centered with an eagle, with two support arms with rounded end mounted with brass hydras, supporting a pleated green silk crest or shield shaped screen, resting on a tapered pedestal and molded round base. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 42.75", width 23.25", depth 9.75".
