English, early 19th century. A Regency period tortoiseshell and mother of pearl tea caddy, with a serpentine front and conforming lid and lower molding, the concave panels and the lid inset with tortoiseshell, and the sides and back inlaid with mother of pearl in a diamond motif, resting on boxwood ball feet, with a silver scalloped key escutcheon and shield cartouche (blank) to top. Hinged lid is lined in purple velvet, and opens to reveal two compartments, each with a inlaid mother of pearl diamond motif lid with a boxwood pull, and remnants of leaded lining. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 4.6", width 7.75", depth 4.9".
