Meriden Britannia Co (American (Connecticut), founded 1852) & Hartford Silver Plate Co (American (Connecticut), 1881-1893), fourth quarter 19th century. A fine Aesthetic Japonesque movement silver plate ice water pitcher and handled basket both in quadruple plate: the ice pitcher with fluted collar over a banded stippled neck decorated with panels of leafy foliage, bamboo leaves and nouveau style figures, mounted with a foliate form handle that branches out to both sides terminating in leafy blossoms across the hand hammer bulbous body with honeycomb design. The cake or bride’s basket with a beaded pierced border and stylized handle over the slanted sides decorated with bamboo leaves, fans, fish, snails and framed harbor and pagoda scenes, spider webs and cupid all against a hammer-finished ground and raised on four legs. Basket is inscribed to exterior side 'Marguerite". The pitcher hallmarked to the underside with early Meriden B. Company mark. Also stamped "Quadruple Plate" and 401. Approximate height 8.75". The basket hallmarked "Hartford Silver Plate Co Quadruple 1027". Approximate height 3" (to basket rim), width 9", depth 9".
