Elgin National Watch Company (American, founded 1864), circa 1881. A gold filled hunting cased 18s pocket watch, grade no. 81, with 13 jewels, key wind and key set. The white watch face with black enamel Roman numeral dial and a secondary stopwatch dial at the 6, with blued steel hands. The case exterior with spiral diamond patterning surrounding cartouches - the back with a sailboat and the front remaining blank for monogram. Retains apparently original key. Marked to interior of cover "91288". Marked to interior of back cover and movement cover "91288" under scales. Movement marked "G. M. Wheeler", "920469", and "Elgin JW". Approximate diameter of case 56mm. Approximate diameter of face 45mm. Approximate overall weight 168 grams.
