Chinese, Qing Dynasty, late 19th/early 20th century. A large hand painted ancestral group portrait on paper apparently depicting two generations of a family - father, son, mother, daughter - seated to foreground in vibrant solid color robes patterned to front with embroidered clouds and phoenix, each figure wearing a traditional headdress or crown, with two diminutive servants at their feet bringing tea service, the figural grouping set before a small altar in the middle ground bearing two jade vases holding pink peonies flanking a table screen bearing many lines of calligraphy, and to the walls behind with representations of three painted figural scenes possibly depicting ancestors of the featured family. Inscribed above central portrait with three gilt calligraphic marks referring to a river. Overall framed approximately 68.75" x 44.125". Sight size approximately 57.75" x 33.75".
