$250
18th century the domed lid with a partial thumb piece monogrammed C. M.K. and dated 1760, above a cylindrical handled body depicting a man riding a horse among palm trees, three touch marks to the underside of the lid. Height 10 inches. In good, stable condition overall. The top half of the typically spherical thumb piece is missing. Surface wear in the form of minor nicks, scratches and areas of tarnish to the hinged pewter lid. The domed lid is slightly loose from its hinge. Scattered instances of glaze skip and pitting to the cylindrical body consistent with age, together with more significant areas of loss to the glaze (particularly along the lower edge). Half of a pewter mount attached to the lower portion of the handle is missing. Examination under UV light causes an area of adhesive residue on the body to fluoresce, in addition to a minor patch on the underside.
