Initialed and numbered "RM/12/52" in pencil l.r., publisher's dry stamp l.l., identified on a label from Galerie Maurice, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, affixed to the backing. Lithograph in black and brick on paper, image size 40 3/8 x 56 1/4 in. (102.4 x 142.7 cm), framed. Condition: Deckled edges, floated within the frame, not examined out of frame. N.B. The title - a subject Motherwell returned to several times - refers to the fall of the Spanish Republic and the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. In 1936, at the outbreak of the war, poet and playwright Federico García Lorca was assassinated by a group of fascists.
