Narayan Shridhar Bendre (Indian, 1910-1992) Omkareshwar (Temple of Peace) Signed indistinctly l. c., numbered "88" and titled on a typed label on the reverse, identified in an inscription on the frame backing paper. Watercolor and gouache on green textured paper, 12 3/4 x 19 5/16 in. (32.3 x 49.0 cm), framed. Condition: Retouch/repair to u.l. corner, hinged to back mat along the top edge of the reverse. Provenance: From the collection of Mrs. Kamala Nimbkar (née Elizabeth [Betty] Lundy), Newtown, Pennsylvania, by gift to the family of the current owners. N.B. Betty Lundy was a friend and neighbor of the Bucks County family to whom she gave this Bendre watercolor, as well as Lot 308. Omkareshwar is a Hindu temple dedicated to God Shiva on the island of Mandhata (or Shivapuri) in the Narmada river in central India.
