Condition: Canvas deformation, accretions, surface grime. Scattered tiny dots of white pigment to the surface. With a label from Aldridge Brothers, Gilders and Framemakers, Printsellers and Artists Colormen, Worthing (Sussex, England) on the back of the frame. Frame bears a handwritten label "No. 51/The Brook/..." which must relate to a paiting that occupied the frame at an earlier time. Early examination of the signature on this work was thought to be possibly Vlaminck, the palette and the scene being somewhat reminiscent of his very early works in the area of Chaton, Seine-et-Oise. However, when the painting was presented to the Wildenstein Institute, this work was not accepted by the Comité Vlaminck for the catalogue raisonné.
