After Albertus Seba (1665-1736), pair of two hand colored engravings of coral formations, images likely from his iconic text "The Cabinet of Natural Curiosities" originally published in Amsterdam by Jansson-Waesberg,1758. Framed 20.5" x 26.75". Sheet size approximately 14" x 19". Provenance: From the Collection of Mr. Jim Patton, Atlanta, Georgia. Note: Albertus Seba was a renowned apothecary, avid traveler and a trade member of the Dutch East India Company, most notably, he was an insatiable collector of natural history specimens and objects. In 1716, he sold his entire first collection to Peter the Great and immediately began to assemble a replacement collection that eventually dwarfed the first. The publication of his Thesaurus; “Loccupletissimi Rerum Naturalium Thesauri Accurata Descriptio” in 1734 was an effort to permanently document this later collection.
