Oil on canvas, 36 x 53 1/2 in., in a gilt gesso frame. Condition: Repaired, retouched. N.B. The inscription may refer to the character Natty Bumppo, also known as Hawkeye, who is featured in the so-called LEATHER STOCKING TALES. This scene may be drawn from the early part of THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, when Hawkeye, Uncas, Cora, and Alice camp near a waterfall.
