Chinese Export School, 19th Century The American Barque "Abby Bacon" in Chinese Waters. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 22 3/4 x 31 3/4 in., framed. Condition: Tear, prevalent craquelure, minor canvas deformation. N.B. A note affixed to the back of the canvas states that the ship had been a propellor steamship called "The City of Boston," and had subsequently been refitted as a barque by the Bacon family of Cape Cod and Boston. The painting descended in the Bacon and Sears families.
