Federal Mahogany and Flame Birch Veneer Bow-front Chest of Drawers, Portsmouth or Greenland, New Hampshire, 1810-1814, the bow-front mahogany top with inlaid edge overhangs the conforming case of cockbeaded three-paneled drawers; the divisions are outlined with mahogany cross-banded veneer and stringing above the skirt with a central veneered rectangular drop panel, above high bracket feet joined by shaped side skirts to similar rear feet, turned pulls appear to be original, old refinish, (minor repairs), ht. 39, wd. 40 1/4, dp. 21 1/4 in. N.B. Stylistically similar to plate 13, pg. 119 in PORTSMOUTH FURNITURE by Brock Jobe and Myrna Kaye, The Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, Boston University Press of New England, 1995, which is attributed to Joseph Clark (1767-1851).
