Painted Ladder-back Rocking Armchair, Portsmouth, New Hampshire area, late 18th century, the turned finials above the arched slats joined to the down-turned natural arms with carved Indian faces on the terminals, old dark brown paint, (imperfections), ht. 46 1/2, seat ht. 16 in. N.B. The arm terminals are carved with faces in the manner of the Penobscot Indians. Provenance: James Economos.
