Theodore V. C. Valenkamph (American, 1868-1924) "Six Masted Schooner Addie M. Lawrence" Signed "T.V.C. Valenkamph .1905." l.r., identified on the reverse Oil on canvas, 27 3/4 in. x 26 in. (71 x 66.4 cm), framed. Condition: Minor scattered retouch, surface grime, craquelure. Provenance: Acquired by the current owners from the Watson family, builders of the "Addie M. Lawrence." N.B. The "Addie M. Lawrence" was constructed for J.S. Winslow as a coal carrier. She was named for the niece of National Carton president Washington H. Lawrence. In service carrying munitions and other supplies to Europe during World War I, she sunk in a storm off of the coat of France in 1917. Exhibitions: The Penobscot Museum, Searsport, Maine.
