She earned her B.F.A from Boston University and a Master of Fine Art from Yale. Over the past decade, her works have been included in several gallery shows across the country. In 1997, while on a teaching sabbatical, Kathleen started a series of paintings, which derived from her observations of nature. Although initially Kathleen intended to create large-scale works, once she actually started working on this series, she was instantly drawn to smaller, more life sized interpretations. When discussing her working method, Kathleen says that she considers herself "a representational painter, but (her) method is abstract." She feels that the "memory of one's reaction to (a) subject is as important as (an) observation." Kathleen manipulates light and space to show how "awed (she is) by nature" and tries to recreate that sense for her viewers.
