Identified in inscriptions in the matrix. Lithograph on paper, sight size 28 1/2 x 41 1/2 in., framed. Condition: Margins 1 1/2 in. or more, creases and tears, including some within image, unobtrusive scattered staining, not examined out of frame. N.B. Son of aquatint engraver John Hill, J.W. Hill was a landscape and topographical painter. Early in his career, he was employed by the New York State Geological Survey and later by Smith Brothers to draw views of many American cities. The Smith Brothers were in the print publishing business in Boston from 1848 to 1857.
