Red Stained Birch Slant-lid Desk, Boston, early 19th century, attributed to the cabinetmaker Samuel Drew, the slant-lid opens to a two-stepped interior of valanced compartments, separated by scrolled dividers flanking a central drawer, and small drawers over a case of graduated drawers with cockbeaded surrounds above a molded base with a central shaped drop pendant flanked by arched bracket feet, original brass and surface, (old replaced feet), ht. 42 1/4, wd. 41, dp. 20 1/4 in. N.B. Samuel Drew was a journeyman to Richard Corning, Boston cabinetmaker in 1799, according to Boston Cabinetmakers And Allied Craftsmen, by Anne Haley, May 1996, as cited in the Maine Antiques Digest's American cabinetmakers database.
