Federal Walnut Inlaid Serpentine Chest, attributed to Thomas Needham, Salem, Massachusetts, 1805-15, the serpentine top with string inlaid edge overhangs a conforming case of drawers with string inlay in outline and cockbeaded surrounds on a molded base with an oval-inlaid shaped pendant flanked by high bracket feet with frontal stringing in outline and a central oval inlay, old refinish, old replaced brasses, (repairs), ht. 35 1/4, wd. at top 39 1/2, case wd. 37, dp. at top 20 1/2, case dp. 20 in. N.B. Thomas Needham III (1780-1858) was a Salem, Massachusetts cabinetmaker who worked serpentine chests in a very similar style to this lot.
