American, Circa 1880s. Ansonia iron and slate 8 day mantel clock with shaped top (lacking finial) and two gilt finials above the circular glazed door opening to an gilt egg and dart bezel with Black Roman numerals and pierced spandrel hands and open escapement marked Ansonia Clock Co Patented, flanked by standing caryatids on shaped base, the whole with gilt incising and the sides with lion masks. The movement stamped Ansonia Clock Co, Patented 14.81., New York, USA. Patented June 13, 1882. Height 13.4", width 12.15", depth 4.75".
