"Chrysanthemum" Soup Tureen and Underplate, New York, c. 1888, oblong, the domed lobed lid with cast chrysanthemum loop handle above molded floral band, the lobed body with everted molded floral rim, and cast chrysanthemum handles and feet, the underplate with similar molded rim, with engraved chrysanthemum monogram to tureen and underplate, with presentation inscription to tureen, approx. 225 troy oz., underplate lg. 18 3/4, wd. 15 1/4, tureen ht. 11 3/4 in. Provenance: Given by members of the John Nicholas Brown family of Providence, Rhode Island, to George W.R. Matteson, April 21, 1888, thence by descent to the present owner.
