A collection of three hand carved wood and mother of pearl crucifixes comprising of one 20th century handheld cross with incised mother of pearl veneer to front decorated with diamond forms, an applied scroll reading "INRI" above Christ's head, and an incised flower bloom behind the head of the metal Christ suspended to the cross, the back with inlaid mother of pearl discs marked "STA" with a Roman Numeral, one each for the 14 Via Dolorosa Stations of the Cross, approximately 6. 375" tall; a likely 19th century handheld polychromed wooden crucifix with mother of pearl veneer to each plane (aside from the crossbar ends), with Jesus depicted carved in relief to front hanging from the cross with a carved depiction of Mary Magdalene's face below his foot and "INRI" incised above his head, the English translation of the Latin anagram meaning "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews", and to verso of the cross a depiction of the Madonna carved in relief to the MOP with her hands clasped to her chest with green garlands to each arm and below her foot, the remaining panels to the cross decorated with black geometric carvings, approximately 7.375" tall; the last cross, likely first half 20th century, mounted to a graduated scroll form pedestal with carved mother of pearl veneer to front depicting the Madonna, the MOP engraved cross form with Mary Magdalene at the base below an attached Christ figure at cross with heavenly scenes at each end of the form, verso of cross with inl Read more…
