Group of Silhouettes in a Paper Bound Booklet, initialed "C. J.H.," 1864, entitled "CUT WITH SCISSORS WITHOUT DRAWING," depicting finely cut figures of animals and birds in rural landscapes featuring detailed trees, some of the depictions appear to be storybook or fable illustrations, (wear to booklet), 6 3/4 x 6 in. N.B. Accompanying the lot is a note identifying the artist as Catherine J. Hill, 1835-1916, sent from Dorset, Vermont, to Alice Morse Winchester, then editor of The Magazine Antiques, in which the October 1965 edition featured on its cover a copy of one of the silhouettes. A comment on the booklet, then owned by the editor, was made on the Editor's page, number 477. A copy of the magazine also accompanies the lot. N.B.
