Set of Seven Brown Painted and Decorated Thumb-back Chairs, New England, early 19th century, one armchair and six side chairs with bowed crests over arrow-form spindles flanked by shaped stiles on incised balloon seats and bamboo-turned legs joined by stretchers, crest with gold and black stenciled fruit and leaf motifs, gold and black accents, (paint wear), ht. 33, seat ht. 17 3/4 in. N.B. The undersides of the seats are signed "A. Williams" for Abiathas Williams, born in Raynham, Massachusetts, in 1773, died in Taunton, Massachusetts, in 1856.
