Sunderland Pearlware Jug, England, early 19th century, black transfer printed and polychrome enamel decoration with pink lustre embellishments, obverse, a depiction of a British ship under full sail with a verse in a cartouche, "May Peace and Plenty On our Nation Smile and Trade with Commerce Bless the British Isle"; reverse, a verse in a floral wreath, "The Sailor's Tear"; beneath the spout a Mariner's Compass flanked by British ships, each transfer decorated with red, green and yellow enamels, (imperfections), ht. 9 3/8 in.
