Attributed to C. Kappauf (German, ac. 1860) Two Ship Portraits: Jenny Prince and Anna Decatur. Ships identified on pennants, titled below. Enamel on porcelain, 6 3/4 x 8 and 8 x 10 1/4 in., respectively, (oval format) within gilt-lined frames. Condition: Both with very minor wear. N.B. The Jenny Prince was an American barque built in Freeport, Maine by Briggs and Cushing in 1864. The merchant ship Anna Decatur was built at Portsmouth, New Hampshire by Tobey and Littlefield. Between 1856 and 1876, the vessel was owned by William Jones and Son, I. Goodwin, J.H. Boardman, and William H. Parson. Capt. William Barnes sailed the ship between Portsmouth and Calcutta for a number of years. Further information on Capt. Barnes and the Decatur is provided on the labels affixed to the reverse.
