British School, 19th Century Loss of the Royal George Off Spithead. Unsigned, titled on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 11 1/2 x 15 1/4 in., in a molded gilt frame. Condition: Lined, scattered retouch primarily to sky. N.B. Spithead, a rendezvous site for the British fleet, lies off Portsmouth Harbor between Portsea Island and the northeast coast of the Isle of Wight. The Royal George was lost there August 29th, 1782.
