Miles Walters (British, 1774-1849) The American Packet Ship Hudson Entering Dover. Signed and dated "WALTERS 1828" l.r., shown broadside and stern, identified on bow and pennant. Oil on canvas, 19 x 33 in., in a molded gilt frame. Condition: Lined, retouched. N.B. The Hudson was one of four packets sailing in John Griswold and Fish and Grinell's London Line, the first established (1823). The line sailed on the first of each month from Fly Market Wharf in New York. The ship's first captains were Hanry Champlin, later a successful banker, and E.E. Morgan.
