Liverpool Creamware Jug, England, early 19th century, black transfer printed and polychrome decorated, obverse "WASHINGTON" (McCauley 57), his portrait surrounded by three female figures, Justice, Liberty, and Victory with a cherub above, a scrolling ribbon inscribed with the names of fifteen states and stars surrounds the oval reserve; reverse, an American three-masted sailing vessel decorated in red, white, blue, yellow, and green enamels; beneath the spout, a monogram within a wreath above an American eagle, (McCauley 153), traces of gilt and black highlights decorate the body, (minor imperfections), ht. 10 1/2 in.
