American School, 19th Century The Ship Govr. Strong of Boston Wm. Morland 1802. Unsigned, titled below. Mixed media including watercolor, gouache, and pen and ink on paper, sight size 13 1/2 x 19 1/2 in., in a molded gilt frame. Condition: Overall toning, not examined out of frame. N.B. The ship (439 tons), was owned by William Gray of Salem and William H. Bordman of Boston. It was built in Wiscasset, Maine, in 1801. The ship later made several trips to the Pacific as a whaler. A plaque in the upper right corner states that the work was executed "In Memory of William Morland Who Died at Lima 1807."
