Mildred Sophie Porter (American (California) 1904-1996), "Still Life with Lemon and Pear", oil on canvas, signed lower left. Bold still life painting depicting white shell shaped bowl holding fruit including a lemon, a pear and a green apple in foreground, light blue dish at right with half cut lemon and large pear on green tabletop, potted fern plant sits on back of table, leaves hanging over fruit, patterned wallpaper in background. Framed approximately 25.5" x 19.25". Unframed approximately 20.25" x 15.25". Note: Porter was born in Macomb, Illinois and moved at an early age to Riverside, California in 1908. Following college graduation from UCLA, she settled in San Francisco, California in 1930 and continued her studies at the CSFA. She briefly worked for Foster & Kleiser and later she became a freelance illustration artist.
