Continental (likely French),19th century. A solid oak wood blanket or dowry chest of large proportions decorated with heavy moldings and Baroque carving, the three-board lid top surmounting a molded plinth with central keyhole framed by decorative brass escutcheon, opening to chest interior, chest facade decorated with carved foliate strapwork pattern framed by carved molding, flanked by two foliate carved squared columns on heavily molded plinth base, allover resting on a double row of large molded plinths resting on squared block feet. Approximate height 36.75", width 54.5", depth 28", interior depth 23".
