Likely English, 19th century. A mahogany barrel back armchair or library chair, the barrel back crest rail upholstered in red leather with brass nailhead trim, the central splat pierced with intricate Palladian style fretwork, flanked by two squared stiles carved in repeating loop patterns, the armests terminating in wooded handrests forming the tops of cyma curved supports, the seat upholstered in read leather with brass nailhead trim over a beaded seat rail decorated with carving in repeating lattice pattern and classical floral medallions at each end of seat rail, terminating in squared legs with lattice carving conforming to seat rail and quarter-round pierced chinoiserie fretwork between seat rail and legs, front legs resting on molded plinth supports, joined to raking back legs by pierced u-shaped back stretcher and cross stretcher. Approximate height 34", width 27.5", depth 20", seat to floor 18.5".
