Door of Hope Kindergarten Child, China, c. 1920s, carved wood head and hands, layers of traditional child's clothing, fringed embroidered fuchsia silk cap and aqua bib, cotton striped pants, printed overdress tiger-face slippers, symbolize courage and strength, ht. 6 in. Provenance: Letter with doll details history of original child owner, Erma MacDermid, of Brookline, Massachusetts, whose church school sent donations to the Door of Hope Mission which then sent dolls to the class, photographs of Erma are also included.
