Lincoln, Abraham Document Signed , July 2nd, 1863, one page, as President, concerning the first draft call for troops from Massachusetts, requesting 1, 954 men "as the first proportional part of the quota of troops to be furnished by the first district of the state of Massachusetts", framed with portrait, (very good). Provenance: Goodspeed's, Boston, Massachusetts. This terse but important document is the result of the passage of the "Act for Enrolling and Calling out the National Forces" in March of 1863. This draft so enraged many of those in the North it spawned the New York Draft riots in which mobs ruled the streets of New York for three days.
