Maugham, William Somerset (1874-1965) Group of five letters signed and one autograph letter signed, 1945-1960, each one page, to Mr. Holbrook Smith, two pertaining to Smith's health due to a war injury and the others concerning requests to meet; "I'm afraid I can't come today I 'm expecting a block and I don't exactly know at what hour". It seems apparent that although Smith and Maugham had some previous correspondence prior to 1945, Maugham's tone would suggest an attempt to distance himself from Smith, (all very good).
