Gershwin, George (1898-1937) Important and Rare Autograph letter signed, June 13, 1934, four pages, 8vo, to Miss Mildred Rosenthal, Brookline, Massachusetts, concerning his trip south to work on an opera (Porgy and Bess) and telling her to give his regards to (Arthur) Fieldler, with holograph envelope, (very good). Text in full: Dear Mildred--thanks for your little note inviting me to your fair city. I'd love to come up as I always enjoy my stay there, but unfortunately I'm going in the other direction-South. I've taken the little house in Charleston for a month & on Friday my cousin Botkin & I board a train for the land of magnolia gardens, I am hoping to get some real work done on the opera donw there. Please give my regards to Fiedler & tell him I appreciate his feeding Gershwin to his tolerant (of my music I mean) audiences. Have a nice summer for yourself and don't neglect to paint many pictures. Incidentally I finished the painting of the African masks & when you come to town again I likes you to see it. So long & hope to see you soon, as ever, George G.
