American School, 19th Century A Pair of Portraits of The Kidder Family. mid-19th century, Mrs. Kidder wears a black dress with a cameo brooch and necklace and holds a child in a white dress; Mr. Kidder is depicted in a bust length pose. Oil on canvas, 29 1/2 x 23 1/2 and 29 5/8 x 23 1/2 in., framed similarly in giltwood reproduction frames. Condition: Lined, scattered retouch. Provenance: In 1865, Henry Kidder (1822- ?) with Francis and Oliver Peabody established Kidder Peabody and Co., a diversified banking house of Boston and later New York. The child is Emma Kidder, the granddaughter of Henry Kidder. She became a Shakespearean actress.
